LAMBORGHINI MIURA, 60 YEARS OF A MYTH: THE GIRO POLO STORICO CELEBRATES THE FIRST SUPERCAR IN HISTORY

A journey through beauty, engines, and Italian tradition

Sixty years after the debut of the legendary Lamborghini Miura, Automobili Lamborghini chose to celebrate one of the most iconic models in its history with the Giro Polo Storico 2026, an exclusive event dedicated to collectors from Europe, America, and Asia. From May 6 to 10, twenty examples of the historic sports car traversed some of the most picturesque roads in northern Italy, bringing to life an itinerary of over 500 kilometers across Piedmont, Liguria, Tuscany, and Emilia-Romagna.

The tour combined the charm of historic driving with the excellence of the Italian territory, crossing UNESCO World Heritage landscapes, historic villages, Apennine passes, and locations that symbolize the national automotive culture. An experience designed not only to celebrate the Miura, but also to reaffirm the deep connection between Lamborghini, Italian design, and the country’s artisanal tradition.

The Miura, the car that changed the concept of the supercar

Presented in 1966, the Lamborghini Miura is considered by many to be the first true supercar in history. With its mid-rear V12 engine, revolutionary design, and extraordinary performance for the era, the car marked a turning point in the world of the sports automobile, immediately becoming a symbol of innovation and desire.

During the Giro Polo Storico, all the major evolutions of the model were represented, from the P400 to the P400 S, up to the famous SV. Among the most precious examples present at the event, a very rare Miura SVJ attracted particular attention, destined to enter the collection displayed at the Lamborghini Museum within the exhibition “Miura: Born Incomparable”. Also present was one of the two original prototypes of the Miura SV, used at the time for the development of the car.

From the Langhe to Portofino, passing through Carrara and Florence

The journey started from Cerreto Langhe, in the heart of the Piedmontese hills, where the crews gathered before the official departure. The first stage took the Miuras toward Liguria, crossing the Gavi hills to reach Rapallo and subsequently Portofino, where participants took part in an exclusive dinner overlooking the sea.

The following day, the convoy continued toward Tuscany, stopping in Brugnato, a village that welcomed the cars for the occasion with dedicated floral installations. The route then continued to Carrara, between marble quarries and technological innovation, before arriving in Florence. In the Tuscan capital, the Miuras paraded through the streets of the center, attracting the attention of enthusiasts and onlookers, while the evening concluded in the historic Palazzo Borghese.

The Apennine passes and the grand finale in Imola

The final part of the tour crossed the Mugello and some of the most iconic stretches for sports driving enthusiasts, such as the Futa and Raticosa Passes, which are still used today by Lamborghini for the development of its cars.

The arrival at the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari in Imola represented the culminating moment of the event. Here, the Miuras took part in the celebratory parade organized inside the Lamborghini Arena, bringing together collectors, customers, and thousands of fans of the brand.

The Fenomeno Roadster pays tribute to the 1968 Miura

During the gala evening organized in Imola, Automobili Lamborghini also presented the new Fenomeno Roadster, an open few-off V12 car inspired by the famous 1968 Miura Roadster. A modern tribute to one of the most fascinating models ever created by the Sant’Agata Bolognese manufacturer.

The event concluded on May 10 with the grand final parade, during which the Miuras paraded alongside other historic and contemporary Lamborghini models in front of thousands of people.
