In the world of international motoring, few cars can boast a revolutionary impact equal to that of the Lamborghini Miura. Sixty years after its birth, the Vicenza Classic Car Show (March 27-29, 2026) is dedicating an entire exhibition area to what is rightfully considered the first supercar in history. It all began in 1965, when an innovative, lightweight chassis designed to house a powerful 4-liter V12 engine in a transverse mid-engine position was presented at the Turin Motor Show: a solution that was then unprecedented for a road car.

Behind that project, named L105, was a group of young engineers determined to push the limits of the era. Paolo Dallara and Gian Paolo Stanzani, together with designer Marcello Gandini for Bertone, transformed a bold idea into a milestone in automotive history. It was precisely this vision that redefined Lamborghini’s identity, projecting it into a new dimension of extreme performance and innovation.

Three evolutions for a legend

Produced between 1966 and 1972 in only 782 units, the Miura developed through three main versions, each representing a technical and stylistic evolution. The P400, presented at the Geneva Motor Show in 1966, marked the beginning of a new era: a low profile, revolutionary proportions, and a mechanical layout destined to become the standard for supercars. With the P400 S came improvements in terms of comfort and performance, while the Miura SV represented the pinnacle of the project, with an output of 375 HP and a claimed top speed of 300 km/h.
